Water Sign Full Moon Walk at Sacred Coldwater Springs
Tuesday, December 29, 2020
Gather at the park entrance, 7pm
Park at pay meters on the Hwy 55 access road via credit card/quarters
This moon is in her own sign, Cancer. It is a time of instinct and intuition. Let us scry the Coldwater pond, the moon in the water, steam coming off the earth temperature water into the cold air. Good-bye 2020. Hello to the new world we are making.
On the November full moon we conducted a Citizen Science Salt Water Watch test sponsored by the Izaak Walton League and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. (Note that the MPCA recently granted permission to the Canadian Enbridge Corporation to complete its tar sands oil pipeline across northern Minnesota including the headwaters of the Mississippi River, Hudson Bay and the Great Lakes/Laurentian Divide. The proposed pipeline also cuts through the most pristine wetlands in our state and Anishinabe wild rice lands. Some people call the MPCA the “pollution permission†agency.)
Since Coldwater is just downhill of the expanded Highway 55 reroute and road salt, chloride, has been measured in the flow, we decided to follow the testing regime this winter.
Friends of Coldwater seek to honor our 10,000-year-old landscape ancestor. Full moon walks have been celebrated at Coldwater Springs monthly since 2000. We return to remember the spirits that feed this Spring. Please bring a rattle.
Give a blessing, get a blessing. Blessings travel in circles.

DIRECTIONS: Coldwater Springs is between Minnehaha Park & Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, just North of the Hwy 55/62 interchange. From Hwy 55/Hiawatha, turn East (toward the Mississippi) at 54th Street, take an immediate right, & drive all the way down on the frontage road where you can park at the pay meters.
Gather at the cul-de-sac, which is the Coldwater Park entrance.
All welcome. We observe all covid-19 safety mandates. Dress for the weather, especially sturdy footwear. We celebrate the full moon in all-weather however the length of the walk depends on conditions. If it’s really cold or wet it’s a quick 10-minutes to the spring outflow gurgling from under the limestone bedrock Spring House built in the 1880s to supply potable water to Fort Snelling.
This gathering is free and open to the public.
