Join Us for a Sacred Ceremony and Potluck Gathering

Commemorating the Past

ON DECEMBER 26, 1862, thirty-eight Dakota men were hanged in Mankato, Minnesota. This remains the largest mass execution in U.S. history.

All Are Welcome: Please join us for a sacred ceremony and potluck gathering. (All times approximate.)

Ceremony Details

The ceremony will be performed by Joseph Bester and Lon Navarre. Assisting in the ceremony will be Tommy, Steve and Riley.

  • When: Saturday, February 8, 2025, 11:00 AM (Lighting of the sacred fire)
  • Where: Fort Snelling State Park
    101 Snelling Lake Rd, St. Paul, MN 55111
    (Park entrance off Highway 5 at Post Road near the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. Stop at the park office for a free pass or bring this flyer.)
  • Please Bring: Tobacco and Sage for the ceremony (if possible).
  • Note: The ceremony is outdoors—please dress warmly as it will be cold.

Potluck Gathering

  • Time: 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM
  • Location: Dupuis House (Sibley Historic Site)
    1357 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota, MN 55150
  • Please Bring: A dish to share, as this is a family-style potluck.
