It would be beyond shameful to evict the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota from their original home yet again. Considering what our immigrant forbears did to the native people of this land, it’s already an embarrassment that the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota are using a rundown, ramshackle building as their community center. Would someone please explain how a landlord can get away without provide basic plumbing?
We owe it to the original founders of Mendota to provide them a permanent place to gather, teach their language, history and traditions, and thrive as other ethnic groups do in their community centers. American Indians are among the poorest of the poor, so I don’t know how this will be done. We must not tolerate the eviction of our neighbors from Mendota.
Thank you to whom ever wrote this. The Mendota Community.
