Part One:

Confronting the Trauma and Embracing Our History

May 8, 2008  from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Cost:  $35.00

Light lunch provided

Part One focuses on Internalized Oppression and its effects on our community. The presenter

will provide an overview on the dynamics of racism and its historical roots including

colonialism, boarding schools, scientific racism, and blood quantum.  Culturally specific strategies

for healing will be highlighted.

Part Two:

Understanding the Trauma

May 15, 2008 from  12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $25.00

Part Two focuses on the effects of historical trauma – in particular, the effects on Native

American women and men. The presenters will provide traditional concepts of the role of

women and men and the continuity of traditions in the maintenance of well-being in

contemporary society.

Transcending the Trauma

Part Three focuses on our youth and how they have transcended internalized trauma and

have empowered themselves in positive ways.  Youth will also speak about their needs for

balanced lifestyles and their expectations for community support.
