Description:
This experiential workshop will explore oral tradition; its purpose and meaning in American Indian cultures. It will look at how traditional people used oral tradition as a method of education. It will give examples of how storytellers have used oral tradition to explain world views, spirituality, culture, moral choices, and humor through lived experience of Native peoples.
After this workshop participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of identity
2. Explore one’s spirituality and eliminate confusion
3. Talk about long standing issues of shame and guilt in regard to their cultural identity
4. Find strength and healing in one’s cultural oral tradition.
