NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN
INDIANS TO HOLD FEDERAL
RECOGNITION TASK FORCE MEETING IN WASHINGTON D.C. FEBRUARY 27, 2003

We received a letter from the National Congress of American Indians.   They believe it is time for a national meeting of tribal leaders, from both federally and non-federally recognized Indian tribes to begin to address needed reforms to the federal recognition process.  This meeting will give leaders the opportunity to discuss concerns with the current process and devise viable solutions.   We feel it is imperative to send Bob Brown and Pat Daddario to this meeting to have our in-put on the federal recognition process.  The goal of this meeting will be to develop positions on proposed administrative and congressional reforms and develop strategies to ensure that the BIA adheres to the tribal consultation policy.
