The meeting of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Board of Managers about the proposed 2-year sewer construction project has been rescheduled “tentatively” for Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Apparently the hold up is difficulty in reading the ground penetrating radar. At issue is a major limestone subterranean fracture that carries some water to Coldwater. When that fracture was intercepted during the Hwy 55 reroute at 50th Street and Minnehaha Park (one mile north of Coldwater), 500 gallons per minute was pumped out for months. The groundwater was funneled into a sewer that pours into the Mississippi. At that time the flow to Coldwater noticeably decreased. The proposed 2-year sewer project involves shallow and deep dewatering (pumping groundwater away) a mile and a half north of Coldwater. Despite the Coldwater protection law of 2001 mandating no loss of flow to or from Coldwater, sewer construction plans call for “temporary” dewatering at Coldwater. The Metropolitan Council plan is in blatant disregard of the law—because it’s cheaper.
