1. Please check the calendar on the site for upcoming events. If you would like to add any announcements, just email me I will put them on the website.
   
2. Holiday party Dec 13th from 1 - 4pm, please bring a dish to pass.
3. We are having a toy and clothing drive, please bring a donation to the party, or drop it off at the office. Please call first, to make sure someone is there 651-452-4141. Or call Sharon at home 952-217-5182.
4. We are a 501C3 nonprofit. If you want to donate to MMDC as a tax deduction please call the office. If you know of any organizations that could donate to MMDC that would be great!
   
5. The Pow Wow will be on Sept 11,12,13, 2009. This is our 10th Pow Wow. If you have any pictures of ANY Pow Wow’s, please send them to the office, or bring them in..We also need someone to organize them.
6. If you know someone that doesn’t have email, please pass this around.
7. If you know someone who wants to add their email, just have them send it to me.
   
8. The first Pow Wow meeting is Dec 9th at 6:00 pm. If you would like to be on the committee.

WE NEED DONATIONS FOR FORT PECK RESERVATION, THEY NEED COATS AND WARM CLOTHS. WE WILL BE HELPING SOME LOCAL FAMILIES TOO.

LAST YEAR WE GOT LOTS OF CALLS FROM LOCAL PEOPLE WHO HAD NOTHING FOR CHRISTMAS FOR THEIR KIDS, OR GRAND KIDS. PLEASE BRING A DONATION, WHAT EVER YOU CAN, TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY OR BEFORE.

The Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Community is having a fundraiser for the Fort Peck Reservation in Montana this year, they need coats, jackets, warm clothes, toys etc.
We are also helping some local people in the Mpls / St Paul area who need help this year with toys, clothes, what ever you can give.
If you want to drop off anything, please call the office to see if anyone is there.

Claudia’s baby shower is November 22, from 1:00 to 4:00.

Come and join us at MMDC. Claudia is Jim Anderson new wife. She is due Jan 13, they are having a baby girl! She is from Mexico City. She is a psychologist, a moon dancer, and a sun dancer. She also gives professional massages. So please come and make her feel welcome.

Sharon, Pat, Diane, and Linda will giving the shower.

Tuesday Sept 9, at 6:30 pm
at MMDC
for a presentation of Sami Culture.

Our guests will give us a yoik (singing unique to their culture) performance, bring a traveling handicraft exhibition and talk about efforts made for Sami language revitalization, as well as share some of their own experiences.

Learn about this fascinating, ancient, and indigenous European Culture.

The evening will include a pot-luck dinner.
Please bring a dish to share if you can.
The Gaup’s are wonderful people. We meet Ante Mikkel Gaup the papa, Lena Susanne, Lars Ailu, and Sara Marielle, his  adult children. They yoiked for us, that was beautiful. Ante and Lars showed us they put up there lavvu, it is like our Teepees. They made handicrafts made out of reindeer bone, antler, leather, and other things found in the arctic nature.

A week later we had a Inipi with Ante, and a few Saami that live in the area. The Inipi was so beautiful, there were 3 languages. Dakota, Sami, Mexica, but we all felt like ONE. We had a feast, talked, and we all left around 12:45 AM.
